The Art of Self Care: Restorative Yoga and Nutrition for Teachers - Shizuoka, Japan
24-28 July 2017

In this class, we will discuss the importance of self-care practices for balancing the system and maintaining energetic vitality and longevity as teachers.  Students will be introduced to a series of sensory awareness techniques followed by restorative asanas for unwinding the nervous system and restoring vitality to the body mind system.  Exercises will be gentle with an emphasis on listening to the sensory feedback of the body with deep impact on the parasympathetic nervous system (rest, restore, recover).  We will also discuss nutrition and how food choices help balance both the energetic and physical systems of the body (yin/yang concepts) and how the impact of these choices fits into the 8 limb philosophy of the Astanga lineage.  This class will include discussion, gentle asana practice and meditation - with a short break between segments.

closed event

Taught in English with Japanese translation.

June 4, 11, 18, 25: 12-1PM

This series will be geared toward those completely new to Pilates, those just beginning reformer classes, or experienced students who need to develop a basic foundation in proper form and alignment.  In this 4 class series, students will:

  • learn the basic positioning and form for all Pilates work
  • be introduced to spinal and pelvic positioning and the muscles of the core

Sensory Awareness and Neural Re-patterning

1-day Class (2016) - Body Dynamics, Boulder, CO USA
April 30: 11:30-1 PM and/or May 2: 10-11:30 AM

This workshop emphasizes building greater sensation and proprioceptive awareness in the body and resets neural patterns in posture, movement and systemic functioning. The gentle exercises are performed on the floor in a non-weight bearing capacity that involve slow, complex movements of a sliding, gliding and circular motion.

  • Mobilize the joints, promote recovery and profound physical rest in the body.
  • Align the right and left sides of the body.
  • Counter “sensory-motor amnesia”.
  • Open the joint spaces, decrease pain and improve posture.
  • Re-educate neural-muscular patterns in the body.
  • Restore balance through the entire system.

By training the awareness of our sensory-motor system and listening to and developing a more receptive mind, we tap into our body’s innate capacity to heal.  A truly restorative experience for all ages and levels and a much needed practice for healing physical, mental and/or emotional traumas stored in the body-mind field.

$30/class or $50 for both classes.  Call to register: 310-683-898

Sensation and Instinct in Yoga Practice
3-day workshop (2014) - Bem-me-quero, Coimbra, Portugal
July 11: 19h30-21h
July 12 & 13: 10-13h

One of the primary aims of yoga practice is to get in touch with the instinctual, animal wisdom of the body and to become more intimate with the autonomic/involuntary aspect of the Central Nervous System. Through special asana practice and sensory awareness training exercises, this workshop will lead yoga practitioners toward a more subtle experience of the body’s sensation. The evening vinyasa class will be a gentle flow to ease practitioners into mental focus for the weekend training. Saturday will focus on stronger asana and discussion of the CNS in yoga practice. Sunday will be geared toward restorative practice for calming the nervous system and releasing stress and trauma from the body. Both days will include sensory awareness training for yoga attunement, meditation and exploration of the reptilian brain that is our base awareness and source of balance, homeostasis and sensation in the body.

All classes taught in English.
